I got to help with our school’s Teacher Appreciation Week again this year and we had fun pulling together a theme inspired by classic children’s books. Each day was based on a different book and I’ve got details and printables to help you through it all. Sunday- Chalk the School

We started things off by inviting families to meet at the school on Sunday afternoon, chalk in tow, to “chalk the school”. I saw this idea in a facebook group and thought- what a fun idea! A fun and free way to get families invovled. I wasn’t really sure if anyone would show up, but we had a good 10-15 families that did and they worked hard to add nice encouraging notes and drawings all over the school sidewalks. The families really seemed to enjoy it and the staff was all raving about it when they showed up Monday morning. I think the chalk dust did make a little bit of a mess for the janitors, but everyone was so happy when they walked in monday morning I hope it was worth it?

It was fun to see kids and their parents leaving notes for each of their teachers outside their classroom doors-

Monday- Green Eggs & Ham/Breakfast

We started the week off with a hot breakfast for our staff with the theme- Green Eggs & Ham. We did not actually serve green eggs and ham, but we did serve scrambled eggs and canadian bacon. Along with a little yogurt bar and some breakfast pastries and juice. We utilized a corner in our gym that we set up for the teachers for the week. It was a little tricky to make it look nice- but we did the best with what we had to work with, and the super cute decorations from Big Dot of Happiness helped us dress the gym up!

The large poster in the photo above I made with some butcher paper and my cricut, we left it up all week and then just changed a few little decorations on the tables to match the theme/book of the day. We also used some fun decorations like these from Big Dot of Happiness that we left up all week. Each day I would set up a copy or two (or however many I could round up) of the book of the day to go along with the other decor.

Tuesday- Where the Wild Things Are/Trail Mix Bar

On Tuesday we featured the book Where the Wild Things Are with a trail mix bar. We had it set up most of the day so that the teachers could stop in when it was convenient for them and get a little snack. I think it ended up being a big hit for the teachers with a little something for everyone. I added a little woodsy decor to go along with the book of the day.

We included things like: chocolate chips, chocolate covered raisins, granola, dried fruits, nuts, m&ms, chocolate covered almonds and little cups they could use to make their trail mix in and take it back to their classrooms.

The little pennant banners from Big Dot of Happiness were a great addition to our trail mix bar, I stuck them in some of the buckets of nuts and other things. I used galvanized buckets on wood rounds with dollar store scoops for all of our trail mix add-ins. I then had some vine type faux florals I used add a little bit of a jungle type feel. We put cups and little bowls there for them to make their trail mix in.

We also set up a table that day with books that had been donated by families and teachers could go through the books and take whatever they wanted for their classrooms. I think it was a nice way for families to thrift books that their kids had outgrown and have them find a new home. It seemed to be a hit with the teachers as well since the books were pretty slim pickings by the end of the day. The 8X10 print you see in this photo is included in the printable pack as well.

Wednesday- If You Give a Mouse (teacher) a Cookie/Cookie Bar

Of course we had to include possibly the most classic of all children’s books- If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Which is of course so easy to adapt to “if you give a teacher a cookie”. I made some fun printables to go along with the theme that talked about how they would want some coffee to go with it. So we had a cookie and coffee bar. For this we just asked some families that are part of our parent teacher group to bring in some cookies that morning an we displayed them for the teachers to grab during the day when they had a moment.

We had some fun boxes from Big Dot of Happiness that the teachers could load up with cookies, grab a cup of coffee and be on their way. We were able to get coffee donated by Starbucks for this- thank you Starbucks!!

Thursday- The Giving Tree/Sonic Drinks

Unfortunately I have no photo evidence of what we did on Thursday. We used the Giving Tree book as our theme and had the teachers each submit a Sonic drink order that we picked up and delivered to them in their classrooms. Sonic donated drinks for our entire staff for this- thank you Sonic! Luckily our Sonic is just across the street from the school, but we still drove really slow through that intersection!

Friday- Dragons (teachers) Love Tacos/Taco Bar

We have a local taco place that seems to be popular with the teachers, so for Friday we got them to cater lunch for the staff. The theme was of course, “Teachers Love Tacos”.

For decor we just had the printables I made to go along with the theme. I kept the same frames there all week and just swaped out what was inside each day. I think what made it all so special is that we had something new for the teachers each day.
