Thanksgiving Mad Libs

11 / 10 / 2011 / 10 / 22

I’ve got the kids table covered for you this Thanksgiving with this fun create your own story type Mad Libs! This is great for that middle age group, not the toddlers and not the teenagers (most likely). I’m talking your 6-12 year-olds. They can fill in the blanks on their own, or as a group, to create a fun Thanksgiving turkey tale.

A guest post from my friend Melanie at Plan for Awesome

The Turkey Ticket is such a simple, yet effective way to show and teach gratitude at Thanksgiving time. It works for all ages, and can last all month, just a day, or somewhere in the middle.

Rustic Farmhouse Thanksgiving Tablescape

10 / 22 / 1910 / 22 / 19

Last Thanksgiving, the kids and I unexpectedly flew to my parent’s home in New Orleans after all our local schools were shut down as a result of the Camp Fire. It was such a tragic event for our community, but a little silver lining was that I got to spend Thanksgiving with family for the first time in a long time! It was nothing short of a miracle that we were able to find reasonably priced tickets around Thanksgiving at such late notice. And really a blessing to be away from all the horrendous smoke.

My parents have recently converted a barn on their property into a little guest house.… Read the rest

Gratitude & Service Lunchbox Challenge

10 / 27 / 177 / 13 / 19

I was folding laundry the other day when this idea came to me, and I have to admit, I’m pretty excited about it. Sometimes I put notes in my kids’ lunches, you know those fun joke cards flying around pinterest, just a simple “i love you”, encouragement, and occasionally a “challenge”.  Like: find someone who looks sad and cheer them up. Just something to get them thinking not about themselves! As I was thinking about how to teach my kids service and gratitude, especially at this time of year when they are prone to be thinking only about what may or may not end up under that big tree, I thought about a daily lunch box challenge!… Read the rest

I know I promised you a Thanksgiving banner back when I posted this one!  Many apologies for bringing it to you in the 11th hour.  But in my defense, I did make this baby to hang from your buffet table as you “gobble gobble” up your great grandma’s famous candied yams and your aunt betsy’s green bean casserole.  Or this delicious butternut squash recipe from Bless this Mess! So, it’s not too late!
