Are you ready to defy gravity and throw a party that’s truly thrillifying? A Wicked-themed party is the perfect way to bring the world of Elphaba and Glinda to life. With just a few clever DIY touches, you can create an atmosphere straight out of Shiz University—complete with emerald decor, spellbinding snacks, and whimsical activities inspired by the hit Broadway musical. We used this theme for teacher appreciation week, and many of these ideas could easily adapted whether you’re celebrating a birthday, hosting a girls’ night, or planning a magical movie night or watch party.
Wicked Party Decoration Ideas
Transform your party space into a scene straight out of Oz with these magical and budget-friendly decorations. Whether you’re channeling the Emerald City or the halls of Shiz University, these ideas will help set the stage for a truly Wicked celebration.
- Go Green with Emerald Accents– One option is to transform your space into the emerald city complete with yellow brick road. Use green as your main color theme—think emerald streamers, tablecloths, balloons, and plates. Metallic green or glittery touches add a glamorous feel, while black and gold accents help ground the palette.
- Glinda vs. Elphaba Theme Zones– Another option would be to divide your space into two themed areas—one light and sparkly for Glinda (think pink, glitter, and bubbles), and one darker and mysterious for Elphaba (green, black, and gothic-style decor). This makes a great visual contrast and a fun way to represent the show’s iconic characters. We used this balloon garland to highlight the two color schemes. We also divided the tables using half pink and half green tablecloths. Guests could pick if they were “team Elphaba” or “Team Glinda” and sit at the corresponding table. I made printable table tents for each table that are available in my Wicked Digital Bundle. Then for the centerpieces we used witches hats or crowns. These are the tablecloths we used and they were perfect!
- Floating Witch Hats & Wands– We hung these lightweight witch hats and wands from the ceiling using fishing line to give the illusion they’re flying overhead. It’s a simple but dramatic effect that adds instant atmosphere.
- Glittered Witch Shoes Centerpiece– Try spray painting thrifted shoes red or black, cover them in glitter, and curl up black-and-white striped paper legs to stick out—then place them under a cake stand or table edge. It’s a nod to both the Wicked Witch and the classic Oz imagery.

1. “Which Witch Are You?” Quiz
I created a short personality quiz to help guests find out if they’re more like Elphaba or Glinda. You can use this printable for a fun icebreaker or to determine which guests will sit at when its time to eat! The quiz, along with an answer key, are included in my Wicked Digital Bundle.
2. Design Your Own Spellbook
Set up a craft station with mini notebooks, glitter glue, stickers, washi tape, and markers. Let guests decorate their own “spellbooks” to take home—perfect for kids and adults who love a creative project.
3. Broadway Karaoke
No Wicked party would be complete with out some good Wicked music! Cue the karaoke machine (or YouTube lyric videos) and let guests belt out their favorite Wicked songs. You’ll probably have a few “Popular” performances and maybe even a dramatic “No Good Deed” or “For Good” duet.
4. Bubble Wand Making Station
Paying homage to Glinda and her bubbles, let guests make and decorate their own bubble wands using pipe cleaners, beads, and ribbon. Then head outside for some bubble-blowing fun!
5. Flying Monkey Relay Race
Perfect for younger guests! Divide into teams and do a silly “flying monkey” relay—think flapping arms, jumping, and carrying “spell ingredients” (light objects) from one end of the yard to another.
6. Wicked Trivia Game
Test your guests’ knowledge of the show with a Wicked trivia quiz, also included in my Wicked Digital Bundle along with an answer key! I’ve Included questions about the characters, lyrics, and behind-the-scenes fun facts. You can offer small prizes for the highest scorers—like this glittery green nail polish or these unlimited beaded bracelets.

7. Glinda Soda Bar
One of the highlights of our Wicked-themed week was our Glinda Soda Bar (after all- Glinda sure likes her bubbles!). I’ve created a fun Glinda-inspired Soda Bar Menu that is included in my Wicked Digital Bundle.
